Community Animal Welfare Society (CAWS) is a grassroots nonprofit volunteer organization. They provide animal-welfare outreach, including spays/neuters and veterinary care to pets in need of homes. They do not have a shelter
facility, so they go directly to the community and
the animals in need. They conduct an ongoing foster and adoption program, including newspaper ads and regular adoption days at PETsMART Luv-a-Pet Centers. They carefully screen all potential families, do follow-up calls and visits, and require the pet be returned to CAWS if the adopter is unable to keep it. They actively and aggressively encourage spaying and neutering of all pets by promoting the benefits of spaying/neutering whenever and wherever CAWS volunteers interact with the public. They provide pick-up and transportation of the pet to the vet, low-income financial assistance as they can, and cooperation from veterinarians to make reduced-cost spays/neuters available. The help with the cost of the spay/neuter in the adoption fee or with a voucher if the pet is too young to be altered before adoption
